Kevin Maurice Farries Jr., 25, of Detroit, has been charged in Tuesday's fatal carjacking at a Sunoco gas station in the 15700 block of Joy Road on the city's west side.
Authorities allege that around 4:30 a.m., Farries entered the driver's side of a Jeep at the gas station when the owner, Keith Graus, 60, went inside the convenience store.
After Graus pumped gas, he opened the driver's door. Farries stepped out and began attacking Graus, then jumped into the Jeep and ran over him multiple times before driving off, Fox 2 reports.
Graus was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
Later that day, Michigan State Police troopers spotted Farries at a gas station in the 7000 block of Greenfield Road in Dearborn.
When troopers tried to apprehend him, he drove off at a high rate of speed. After a brief chase, he was captured at the intersection of Greenfield Road and Warren Avenue in Detroit.
He faces charges of felony murder, first-degree murder, and carjacking.
