"News is something someone wants suppressed. Everything else is just advertising.”
This quote, commonly attributed to British newspaper publisher Lord Northcliff, is one of my favorites, and it frames everything we do here at Deadline Detroit.
Our journalism is bold and adversarial. And we have our share of detractors, some who hold powerful positions in business and government. But that’s what happens when you do impactful journalism. That’s what happens when you tell hard stories.
Over the last two decades, we’ve witnessed a serious decline in local news in Detroit. While some outlets are retreating, Deadline Detroit is doubling down on our vision for the future of local news.
As a digital-first, paywall-free news website, we don’t have many of the limitations that newspapers do.
But to really make this work long term, we need readers to step up and fund our journalism. Would you join our club of supporting members today?
