Gov. Gretchen Whitmer posts "a quick update" Wednesday afternoon about her spouse's Covid diagnosis and her health. She also uses the minute-plus video below as a pitch for vaccinations, the booster shot and masking.

"Like many Michiganders in the past few weeks," the governor begins, "my husband Marc has tested positive for Covid-19 after feeling a little under the weather. ... I'm currently negative. ...

"I'm thankful that everyone in my family is fully vaccinated and boosted, so that we will be safe from a severe case -- including Marc, who currently only has cold-like symptoms. ...

"This new variant is so contagious and boosters are keeping many Michiganders out of the hospital. I'm thankful for all the hospital teams that are taking care of people. Getting vaccinated and boosted is the best way to protect yourself and your family and ease the burden on our hospitals."

Original post, Monday night:

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is isolating in a separate area of her house after her husband, Marc Mallory, tested positive Tuesday for Covid.

“Today, the first gentleman tested positive for Covid-19 after feeling under the weather," a press release says. "After the positive test, Governor Whitmer took a rapid test, which came back negative, and is awaiting the results of a PCR test out of an abundance of caution.

"Until the PCR test comes back, the governor is isolating in a separate area of the house and has taken steps to complete contact tracing to keep others safe."

The release says that the family is fully vaccinated and boosted.

"Like so many families around the country, the governor and her husband took extra precautions to limit contact with others to stay safe over the holidays as they celebrated Christmas with their immediate family members in Michigan," the release stated.
